Go Figure

a group show

SPOKE NYC

Feb 4th – 26th 2017

SPOKE NYC is pleased to present GO FIGURE, a group exhibition featuring the works of sixteen different illustrators and artists from all over the world. Strongly tied together by their subject matter and penchant for minimal, design-oriented aesthetics, each artist is paving the way for contemporary illustration in their own unique way, subsequently changing the game for what illustration means in 2017.

Visually threaded through like-minded aesthetics and graphic themes, GO FIGURE is an exploration into the diverse varieties of contemporary illustration. Showcasing an international roster, the exhibition features artists from Germany, South Korea, Chile, Australia, the United Kingdom as well as a few state-side here in the US. Connected online via social media, GO FIGURE unites this varied group of illustrators into one cohesive display.

From the curator: “I want to propel the way illustration is viewed in the art world, specifically in a gallery setting. While many of these artists come from a commercial background, I think it’s important to give free reign to explore their own practice extensively, without the constraints and demands of client-based work. This show is meant to be a kind of expedition into the personal side of practicing illustrators, a set of work exempt from prescription, free to exist within a four walled space.”

Participating artists include: Santiago Salvador Ascui • Mario Ayala • Sarah Bowser • Jeffrey Cheung • Matthew Craven • Amir H Fallah • Joseph Ferriso • Brett Flanigan • Michelle Fleck • Casey Gray • Ryan de la Hoz • Andrew Luck • John F. Malta • Sean Newport • Pablo de Pinho • Jenny Sharaf • Anna Valdez • Kristen Liu Wong • Alex Ziv
